The Art of Bankroll Management: A Simple System for Online Play
Bankroll management isn’t about winning more — nothing can promise that. It’s about making sure online play stays affordable, controlled and enjoyable, whatever the results. Here’s a simple system anyone can follow.

Your bankroll is money set aside only for entertainment. It must never include rent, bills, groceries, savings, EMIs or money borrowed from anyone. If losing all of it would hurt your life, it’s too big.
Rule of thumb: decide your monthly bankroll on a calm day, write the number down, and treat it as already spent — like a ticket to a concert.
2. Use small, fixed stakes
Many disciplined players keep each stake to a small, fixed slice of their bankroll, so a losing run doesn’t wipe it out in one evening. Whatever size you choose, keep it consistent and never increase it to recover losses.
| Monthly bankroll | Example small stake (1–2%) |
|---|---|
| ₹2,000 | ₹20 – ₹40 |
| ₹5,000 | ₹50 – ₹100 |
| ₹10,000 | ₹100 – ₹200 |
These figures are an illustration of proportion, not a recommendation to spend these amounts.
3. Set session limits
- Time limit: decide how long you’ll play and set an alarm.
- Loss limit: decide the most you’ll lose in one session and stop when you reach it.
- No top-ups: never deposit again in the middle of a session.
4. Never chase
Chasing — raising stakes to win back losses — is the single fastest way to break a bankroll. A loss is the cost of the evening’s entertainment. Accept it and close the app.
5. Keep a simple record
Note every deposit and withdrawal with a date. A plain notebook or phone note is enough. At the end of the month you’ll see exactly what online play actually cost you.
6. Review monthly
- Compare what you spent with the bankroll you planned.
- Ask yourself honestly whether it was still fun.
- Adjust next month’s bankroll down if you went over — never up to “make it back”.
Warning signs to take seriously
- Spending more than your bankroll, or borrowing to play.
- Hiding your play from people close to you.
- Feeling anxious or irritable when you can’t play.
If any of these sound familiar, pause your ID through the WhatsApp desk and talk to someone you trust. The free Tele-MANAS helpline (14416) is available 24x7.
